Reo Mā`ohi

                                            Reo Mā`ohi: Parau api
By Paul Gauguin
This painting was made in 1892. The painting is oil on canvas. Paul lived in Tahiti in 1891 to 1901.  This painting is a variant of his "Femmes de Tahiti". I really like this painting. I think its beautiful. This artist used impasto. As you can see, the women aren't detailed. I love the brush strokes on the women's and on the clothes. His bold experimentation with coloring led directly to the synthetist style of modern art.

  1. I would like to know a little more about this piece. Is it one of his earlier or later pieces? It is way less primitive that the one we viewed in class with much less block-like color and no outlines.
